How exactly is your story supposed to be uplifting and inspiring, other than an example of how crime sometime pays? Robbing banks turned out to be a pretty good career move. I understand we have an advocacy based legal system, but how is helping people avoid the consequences of their crimes praiseworthy? You seem to regard yourself as well as other people in prison primarily as victims. Your story could have easily been told without any Christian content, except with your Christian experience you can say “Jesus forgives me, now I can say I’m a good person and I don’t have any responsibility for my actions.”
Crime does not Pay! It is by the Grace of God that once we turn our lives over to Him, He is able to turn our crisis into a victory. I know this family personally. We prayed for Shon for years. There was much pain and sorrow. Shon did have to pay for his actions. He did have to take responsibility for what He did. As a born again Christian. We are responsible for every action as well as every thought. Being forgiven is not a free ticket! Shon and Annie both have suffered greatly. But through God’s Grace and Love they are able to live full lives again. Should either of them continued with the way their previous lives were, their story would be much different. If they even lived to tell it. Now because of God’s Grace and Mercy on their lives, they are here and they can help others in similar situations. I praise God for the work He is doing in lives of the Hopwood family. I pray that God will open your eyes to the Truth of God’s Salvation. We serve an Awesome God. To the Hopwood family…your testimony is an inspiration to us all. Be blessed and continue to walk in God’s Love and never cease to tell the World of what God has done in your lives.

First learned of your new book, Law Man, on Tim Challies’ blog (the review and interview) and immediately felt a tug to buy the book and read it. Ordered it from Amazon and before I could sneak off and read it, I found out a good friend’s husband who is a Washington D.C. lawyer and businessman was in town and had a big birthday so I gave it to him….So I ordered another—the second of many no doubt!
Wow, what a great inspirational book of falling down and
getting back up by God’s Grace. Each of your callings is perfect for your past life’s experiences and ongoing journeys of redemption.
Incidently, there are two other outstanding books of this genre you may already know about but I want to mention: First, ‘Out of a Far Country’ by Chritopher Yuan with mother Angela Yuan. It’s another ‘go straight to prison book’ that’s filled with unbelievable Grace, salvation and redemption; Second, ‘Wherever I Wind Up (My Quest for Truth, Authenticity and the Perfect Knuckleball)’ by my fellow Nashvillian R.A. Dickey now starting pitcher with the NY Mets. All of your (our) journeys are different on the surface, but the same on a deeper level. You all are in good and Godly company after extremely difficult challenges.

This is really inspirational and selfless. It just goes to show that you just have to completely give yourself to Him and rest assured, He won’t let you down.
